Mission San Antonio De Padua

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  Mission San Antonio De Padua

Mission San Antonio De Padua was built in 1771 and is believed to be haunted by many ghosts. One is a monk whose apparition holds a candle and walks in the courtyard; another is a 7-year-old girl with cancer who got permission to be buried under the Mission’s arch (her grave is said to mysteriously grow violets). A third ghostly legend here explains the apparition of a headless Native American woman: She was beheaded by her prospector husband for being unfaithful. And once, a ghostly cloud was seen floating throughout the Mission. It is believed to have been the spirit of Father John Baptist, as had just died the night before.

  1. I was taking photographs of Mission San Antonio de Padua: I happened to capture a green orb down in the cellar, orange orbs near the garden and apparitions of what appear to be a padre sitting and in prayer at the edge of his bed. It is a blue apparition of the padre. I couldn’t upload more than one image but email and I can send other images if you are interested.

    • Megan, was this during the daytime? I was there last year June time frame but didn’t know it was haunted. Here again June 2017 and just found out.

    • That’s just dust in the air. You left the flash ON on your camera. I’m a photographer and always catch these dust “orbs” when I leave the flash on. I’m not saying that there isn’t weird stuff out there (I lived in a real haunted house in the 80’s) but lets use a little bit of common sense and skepticism.

  2. Yes, this was daytime. I was taking photographs for an event called Mission Days. I didn’t see the orbs until I got home later. Most of the ghosts seem friendly or seem to be doing routines & prayer. The only one that freaks people out is the headless lady. I have never seen her.
