You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  J.N. Adam Hospital

J.N. Adam Mermorial Hospital was built as a tuberculosis hospital in 1909 and was used for that purpose until 1960, when it became a developmental disability center. It was abandoned in 1995, and is rumored to be haunted. The Friends of J. N. Adam Historic Landmark and Forest is a group who is interested in trying to save the historic spot.

    1. Sheriff’s patroll this complex constantly. Even if you are just walking near the fence they will stop you. They are very friendly but do warn you they will arrest you if you climb or enter the fenced in area.

    2. I’m from around there and people are constantly getting in trouble for trespassing. There are troopers and sherriffs either sitting or patrolling especially on the weekends,at night, and around Halloween time. They even have their own patrol for the grounds because of it and those cars aren’t marked. Been inside once and we were extremely careful. There’s fencing around the entire grounds and you never want to go in the front by the road. There are snowmobile trails around the back and that’s less conspicuous. But you’ll have to either bring something to cut the fence or hope someone else did it for you but they fix the fence often as you would imagine. We did hear some noises when we were there coming from the top floor of one of the dormitories, when we went up to check it out,we couldn’t get to that room because the door wouldn’t budge. Crazy stuff and I’ve heard some crazy stories but you have to be smart if you don’t want to get charged with trespassing.

    3. I’ve been in this place a number of times, prior to hearing about the patrols and arrests. I’ve always parked opposite the main gate across Dayton Road, where there are a number of abandoned homes along Inwood Ave. My car is always in plain sight.

One time I arrived and parked near two other cars. The main gait was unlocked and open. I could hear individuals screaming and breaking windows in the hospital, and I waited until a group of rowdy teenagers came out and drove off, at which point I simply walked right onto the complex through the gate. On every other occasion, there were holes cut in the fence to enter. Up until the last time I visited, I’ve never had a problem entering and exploring–but there have always been others on the property, and I’m never quite sure about the source of the noises I hear.

I haven’t returned since my last visit, late 2016 or early 2017, when I noticed the fence had been repaired at every breach. It was clear that the property was being monitored, and I’m not one to force my way into buildings so I simply left, and I haven’t yet returned.

    4. I was there a few times. You have to park a good distance away in a development area. Its not hard to get in if you walk through the woods, but avoid using the road. It’s a great place to explore.

    5. Your aunts death certificate should be at the Perrysburg Town Clerk Office in Perrysburg, NY. They will look it up & being related, you should be able to get a copy.

    6. We visited this place late at night, around 1am. We didn’t go in but we parked our car putside the fence and listened. We could hear loud banging from the inside and what sounded like a child screeching. This went on for an hour.

    7. I was about 18 or so when I went here with 4 friends… we parked across the road by the siloh and some abandoned houses/ large rock piles or sum i don’t exactly remember(I’ll add a labeled map).. snuck across the street and through woods towards the main entrance and parking lot and found a hole that was closed up but farther down someone cut a new one… went in and explored for a couple of hours, and the strange events began in the theater room with the stage… as soon as we walked in we saw smoke but there was nothing burning and my friend got a picture of a shadow that moved at the entrance and it looked like a shadowy figure of a person … didn’t think too much of it, but we didn’t like all the satanic paintings and 666 marks everywhere, felt a lil evil so we left the theater side of the building… but as it started to get dark, my gf was gettin a lil creeped out by the faint sound of screaming kids and strange banging sounds through a large cement wall that closes off the left side of the hospital(I was told that’s where they separated the mentally ill kids) from the main building.. me being me I wanted to see what the hell was goin on, so we went down the hill from the front and it curved back towards where the supposed children’s wing was… I can remember as we went down the hill and got closer and closer, it kept getting colder(keep in mind it was like 70°- that’s still pretty warm for the northeast so the cold a** air was abnormal).. at that point I was getting chills and my gf said she felt sick all of a sudden…weird… I even remember my friend saying “this feels like the path to hell” as we kept going downhill…kept going… but as we walked up to the entrance of the building, a wheelchair creaked towards the door just the tiniest bit, we were still about 20 feet from the door so no way we could’ve indirectly moved it…so us being dumb we thought it’d just be great to go in despite all of us still hearing the screaming-like sound but we were still curious… by now it’s pretty dark but we had little energizer headlamps so we just thought f**k it let’s keep going… I walk into the building and the first door on the left sparked my interest so I walked in myself, my friends all looking around the main entrance scared to keep going without me… that’s when the sounds started getting a little louder, I thought I was tweakin but everyone in my group said they heard light footsteps and voices upstairs so I came out of the room to go with them to find the stairs… the stairs were nowhere close to usable… so we turned back and for some reason I wanted to go back in that room to the left, and if you’ve ever been there, you’ll see a big metal door that looks like a bank vault door.. it obviously won’t move in the wind and i could tell it was stuck on something… I looked at the door and what was behind it and didn’t see much but lemme tell you as soon as I turned my back to the door( about 10 feet from it) the door starts creaking and closed fully, there’s no way in hell I moved it in any way but it closed! My immediate thought was “which one of these a**holes is playing a prank” but I went back to the entrance and they were all looking at the wheelchair again to see how it possibly could’ve moved… at this point I’m sketched af because they’re all accounted for but we’re still hearing noises and the upstairs floor creaking like someone was skipping around…. that’s when the door moved AGAIN but this time it made a wayyyy louder noise hitting against the wall(I saw it opening outta the corner of my eye)… we all looked at each other with pale faces and I don’t think any of us had ever run so fast in our lives… back up the hill and out the fence through the woods and back to the car to gtfo there…. Now listen I don’t believe in ghosts, I never have(even visited the Stanley hotel and my thoughts on ghosts didn’t change), but that time was different, we all had chills walking to that children’s wing, hairs standin up on our arms, gf felt sick outta nowhere, and all the eerie voices… been there 5 times and every time I go I hear the faint voices screaming and the footsteps all over the place but we never found anything… but after that experience I have never gone back…this place is definitely haunted, be careful if you go because of A-trespassing and B- you might just get to be the star of the next f****ng exorcism movie
