Bureau of State Library

We have had several reports at the State Library of lights turning on and off after closing time, the lids to the copiers open and close with no one around, and there is a tale of people seeing “The White Woman” in the library. We have offered a “spooky tour” to State employees around Halloween, and the building was built over what used to be the “8th Ward”, the red-light district of early Harrisburg.

  1. Wow. I spent so many hours tucked into the corners of this breathtaking library as a kid. No ghost ever bothered me. It had to be one of my favorite places on Earth.

  2. Worked as a Capitol Police Sgt. for over 18 years. Had to enter late one night to assist two officers in elevator. Elevator would stop on each floor but doors refused to open. When I arrived, pushed button and elevator responded bringing car to lobby floor. Officers said that they could not get out for over 15 minutes and radio refused to work and phone appeared dead. Finally were able to get through on phone. Checked and had elevator repair check and all appeared normal.
