The Ghost Hearse

You are here Home  > Miscellaneous >  The Ghost Hearse

The locals around Sumatra tell of a “ghost hearse” that stalks late-night drivers on Highway 65, south of town. The activity allegedly starts at the train track crossing (see map) in the early morning hours. You’ll be driving along innocently enough and all of a sudden the hearse comes up behind you from out of nowhere and drives dangerously close to your rear bumper, shining his lights at you. He’ll follow you north from that point until Bloody Bluff Road, where he suddenly disappears.

  1. A number of years ago, we were riding motorcycles just north of the railroad tracks that cross 65 going to Sumatra. An older model black hearse appeared behind us and followed us for a few miles, passed ,and quickly speed out of sight. It was a bit unnerving to me but since it passed, I did not think too much about the incident and pretty much forgot it. When I read about this on this web page, I still didn’t remember, but now it has slowly come back into my memory, This was in the middle of the afternoon on a cloudy day in autumn because I wore my jacket for the cool air. The hearse looked real and solid but eerie because it had lots of white curtained windows and was a rounded body style black Cadillac. It makes me really wonder.

  2. I’m late September of 89, I was riding between my parents on highway 65 around Greenbrier, Arkansas and we were all three chatting when I noticed a white hearse coming toward us in our lane. Of course I began freaking out, screaming for my dad to get out of the way. The hearse had its lights on and kept coming toward us until we met and then it just kind of went through us and vanished behind us. I know this story is from a different location but it’s the same highway.
