Tennessee State Capitol

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  Tennessee State Capitol

Legend has it that at State Capitol, you may still hear the phantom arguing of two rivals who were both buried in a vault here. Architect William Strickland and Samuel Morgan, head of the Capitol Commission, although they were both respected men, did not get along. Their ghostly arguing continues beyond the grave. But be warned, if you viist: Be on your best behavior! The ghosts also have been known to loudly reprimand visitors who don’t treat the property with respect, shouting at folks to take their feet off the couches and such like.

  1. We visited this state capitol several years ago as a field trip for our school. As my students were eating lunch (sandwiches), several of them put their can drinks on the couches that they were sitting on. out of nowhere the cans were pushed off of the couches, I turned around in time to see two of the can drinks get pushed off by themselves. My students cleaned up the mess and they walked outside, they were in disbelief as was I. Very interesting place indeed.
