Glen Hotel

You are here Home  > Hotels and Inns >  Glen Hotel

The 1928 hotel has a chequered past of murder, tragedy and despair, but also one of hope and joy. The original hotel closed during the war, and became a home for women whose husbands were fighting overseas. During the 1970’s, the hotel reopened its doors to the guest clientele, and has ever since gained a reputation as one of the most haunted buildings in the state.

The lobby of the hotel was once the scene of a shootout, with some original features of the building still retaining buckshot damage. Staff have reported the scent of cigar smoke (despite the fact that smoking is banned on the premises), whilst others have reported cold spots. A bright light has also been known to materialise here, perhaps a victim of a fight.

Room #019 is the most haunted the establishment has to offer, with a variety of ghostly occurrences being reported here. The ghost of a woman in old-fashioned garb was once seen standing at the foot of a male guests bed, whilst yet another saw her sitting in a chair watching him as he slept. A female visitor also reported a male presence that hopped into bed with her and kept her warm on a particularly cold night.

Room’s #018, #029 and #012 are all haunted by a variety of spirits, including a poltergeist that rearranges toiletries, a male presence who speaks to visitors and a ghostly female whose laughter has been heard emanating from empty rooms.

Other parts of the hotel, including the hallways and grounds are also haunted. Running footsteps have been heard in the corridors, whilst a shadowy apparition has been seen rushing into Room #009. Elsewhere, the spectre of a shivering, bedraggled man has been seen begging for assistance. When a witness tries to intervene, he disappears suddenly. It has been speculated that the man drowned in the Paluxy River, that runs behind the hotel, and is forever seeking help from passer-by’s.

  1. Stayed in #19 and heard what sounded like a box of metallic objects dropped in the room next door. When we checked there was nothing. Had several cold spots and captured photos of orbs in the basement near the infamous boiler furnace. There is no doubt this place has paranormal activity going on. If you do stay, you will keep an overwhelming urge to return to this hotel as if it is calling to you.

    • Very interesting, especially the part where the hotel seems to be calling to you. I have felt a strong kind of attraction to the hotel ever since I first saw it but I have never stayed there.

    Greetings,
My name is Catlin and I have been interested in so much that is related to similiar places such as the Glen. I have been a historical character actress for over 30 years now and I am also a sensitive to the God given energy within us all. I specialize in giving tours on the old historic squares of Granbury, Tx and now Glen Rose, Tx. My next tour will be on Halloween, 2017 … bring your flashlights, your prayer warriors and your curiousity. Let’s investigate the parameters of Glen Rose Courthouse Square together. Tour is normally $10 for adults, but this year, donations only.
Interested?? Facebook me at Glen Rose History, Legends and Lore Tour … Mention this site for free tickets for four. Must leave a comment at the Glen Rose History Legends and Lore page to enter. Tour begins at 9 pm, October 31, 2017. Courthouse square … Tour duration is estimated to be a bit over one hour because it’s a low key walking tour. Several benches throughout the tour for those who need to rest. Oh, and bring your own personal experiences with the buildings or businesses from Glen Rose History. Hope to see you there! Catlin
