General Dodge House

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  General Dodge House

Folks say General Dodge himself is still hanging about the grounds. If you take a guided tour through the building, you may catch a glimpse of him sitting in his rocking chair. Around the grounds, light flashes and the smell of fire have been reported. Another strange occurrence that may happen here: If you stand in the middle of the street at dusk some say you can hear the ghostly sound of two men arguing. Please make sure there are no cars coming!

When I was in 5th grade we went there for a feild trip and we were in the kitchen part of the house and I remember one boy in my grade fainted and foam was coming out of his mouth. It was really scary. I have no idea if it has something to do with General Dodge

    • What are you doing there at 7 pm? It is closed at 5pm! I volunteered there for a number of years. Spent hours there and saw nothing! And you broke rules that no camera nor video cameras ate allowed due to security. The house contains antiques and are priceless.

When I was in the 5th grade I went on a field trip here once we got upstairs I felt like the room was off somehow. Than all of a sudden i got extremely cold, lightheaded, and nauseous. As soon as I got back down stairs I puked and than felt fine. This place serious scares me I had nightmares for weeks afterwards.

  4. I volunteered at the Dodge house. I also got the privilege to decorate 2 Victorian trees. I spent many hours there. By myself alot. I saw nothing and besides the General had no rocking chair! LOL. That part is hilarious! The only rocking chair is in the girls room. The chair was a wedding gift to one of theirn servants. It was returned to the museum. I love the Dodge house. It was a great experience being a docent there. I have great respect to the Dodge family.

  5. When my two kids were young their dad and I took them to the Omaha zoo, it was 2007, and we visited the Dodge House as it in the vicinity. Between the kitchen and dining room was a narrow connecting space called the butler’s pantry. While the tour guide was speaking, I caught sight of a semi opaque black mist or shadow that flitted across that pantry. I think the tour guide, judging by her reaction, saw it too but she didn’t mention it, I think she didn’t want to draw attention to it. The fact that it was black disturbed me. And there was no immediate light source to cast a shadow and no other people in the house at the time.
