The hospital, opened in 1931 to house criminally insane patients contains 16 buildings connected by underground tunnels. It is said to be haunted as a result of its tragic history of patient abuse and questionable deaths, and eventually was closed in 1995. It was used as a setting for the film Sleepers and MTV’s Fear. No trespassing is allowed here; folks who don’t follow this rule are likely to be arrested.

    1. it’s not fair that places keep putting “haunted locations” on their lists, and there’s NO WAY for us to follow through or visit. How are we supposed to visit the location when it’s either torn down or ‘No Trespassing’ allowed? I feel that there should be a separate list for CURRENT haunted places. Just my opinion of course.

    2. I lived in Newtown most of my young life, and still live close. Im very familar with Fairfield Hills Hospital. My neighbor was a nurse there and a friend worked and lived in dorms. I frequented the place. Never saw or heard anything, although Im not surprised its haunted. Creepy place. Town offices are now located there…in newer buildings, not the patient wings. Those remain empty.

    3. Been here Newtown city halls here now I’ll tell you been here when it was open then later when city hall was put in you feel like your being watched I had a unbelievable feeling of dread and fear and of being watched when we left the further away I got the feels disappated
