The 1845 plantation-style mansion was formerly owned by surveyor general Thomas Jefferson Chambers, who was shot dead through a ground floor window in 1863. Local folk say that a shadow has been seen pacing the downstairs room where he was assassinated, and screams have been heard coming from the second floor on quiet nights. Legend has it that the bullet that killed him passed straight through him and struck a portrait on the wall behind him, hitting it in exactly the same spot that he himself was struck.

  1. Who do we contact for permission? I’m a local paranormal investigator and would love to be able to answer the questions from the article.

    • You need to contact the historical department in ANAHUAC Texas. There’s a man there that can help you. It is close to the chamber’s house. If you cannot find it just go to the courthouse and they can contact them. I would love to know what you find
