    1. The Press Club was a often-visited hang out of mine in the mid 80s. I’d heard stories about it being haunted, about Miss Clifford McCullough who was a long-time resident of the building refusing to leave the property. The bartenders leave a shot of booze on the “flight deck” every night at closing and swear it is always empty the next day. One Sunday morning I volunteered to clean the place up after a large party the night before. Simple things like pick up and dispose of trash, sweep and mop floors, just general cleaning. The building has three split levels and is partially built into a hill, so the bottom floor is always the coolest place in the building. The kitchen was very seldom used back then, and it is downstair’s just off the room with a pool table, separated by swinging saloon-style doors. I spent untold hours in that pool room and never liked to look into the dark, windowless kitchen, it gave me the creeps. Anyway, while cleaning I went down to return something I knew belonged in the kitchen, opened the doors and was ran smack into a wall of extremely cold air and a feeling of fear that literally made me feel like jumping out of my skin. I took whatever I was returning back with me, ran up the stairs and could not wait to finish the cleaning and leave. Such an architecturally unique building, very interesting, not sure it is still operational but if you get a chance to drop by say hello Miss Clifford.
