Students pass along the tale of the ghost at Pace Hall, a female apparition, and of strange noises and objects that move and shake by themselves. At Shackelford Hall, now reported to be condemned, a ghost named Sally is said to haunt the third floor. She is said to have hanged herself in the stairwell there as a result of depression.

      • Shackelford used to be condemned though, or at least it was in the years ao 1998-2000ish somewhere after that it was renovated into the Shackelford hall that it is today 🙂 I can’t remember the exact year it was renovated, but I think by 2002 it was back operational.

      • Shackelford Hall is now a Co-ed dorm, whereas Pace Hall primarily houses international students. The third floor of Shackelford Hall still emits a ominous vibe late at night.

    1. I can say that most of this article and the people commenting are giving out false information. I know this because I am from Troy and also worked in housing for most of the time that I was attending. 1. It’s not called Troy State University anymore. It is now known as Troy University. 2. If you are going to write an article about a place, at least get the picture right. It seems to me as if you just Googled “Troy State” and applied the first picture you saw. FYI, that is the Montgomery campus. The least you could do is get the main campus; 3. Shackleford still stands. Yes, it was closed in 2000 for renovations but in reference to the comment above, sir (or ma’am) you’re a troll and a bad one at that.
To sum this up, Hauntedplaces.org, if you are going to attempt to write a well written article on a location, the least you could do is research the location. It doesn’t even have to be extensive. Do better, please

    2. As a Troy Alabama resident and having parents that stayed in Shackelford and Cowart. Shackelford is no longer condemned. I just walked past it last night catching a ghastly on pokemon go. I say stufents entwring Shackelford hacing nice conversations talking about how Sally is a bunch a horsewash. My mother stayed there in the late 90s, She only had her homework and a few coffee cups disappear while she stayed there.

In my honest opninon it seems, Ms. Sally Shacks has moved on. My old senior friend from The high school across the road stays there. She feels just a bit unnerved.

If you want a real picture of the current Shackelford I’ll drive by again tonight for another ghastly.
