St. Petersburg High School

The third floor of the school seems to be the home of at least one ghost who moves things and makes strange noises. Janitorial staff have claimed to see odd phenomena in the auditorium as well.

  1. I am a student at SPHS and a theatre kid. I’m in the auditorium every single day at all times of the day, including late at night for rehearsals. My experiences include: seeing and hearing a shadow man in the costume loft, catching an evp and hearing something being kicked around in the alleyway/props loft backstage, seeing a man on the catwalk, and seeing two red eyes in the projection room. When alone the theatre feels very weird and uncomfortable and you can still here basketballs and sneakers as residual sounds from when it used to be a basketball court. I have had witnesses to all of my experiences and they can also verify what they felt, heard, and saw.

Lindsay, my father was the basketball coach there for 15 years and you would never hear anything related to basketball in the theater as the games were all played on the stage in the auditorium.

and if I were to say that I would have graduated in 199 1992 I know o and if I were to say that I would have graduated in 1992 I know of some um phenomenon going on in the school I use know that they keep the one day lots of students can get in…

  3. I am a 1974 graduate of SPHS. I moved here in 1973 and during the 73/74 school year I had a class on the third floor science room that had an attached lab on the east side of the building. I did not know anything about the previous goings on in that room but after I experienced some crazy stuff I spoke with people who attended the school in 1960s and they had the same experiences. The lab part of the room had the standard lab tables with the bottle gas connections for Bunsen burners on each table.. I watched as the gas connections each turned on one table at a time, the teacher reacted quickly telling everyone to stay seated as he ran around shutting down the gas, as he made it to the last table the faucets on the sinks started moving and water flowed in both sinks. I used to always like getting to that class early because as hot as it was outside there were spots that were absolutely freezing in that room (as dumb as I was I thought it was just good AC) I witnessed the girl sitting next to me start to scream stop touching me, she was escorted out of the classroom and taken to the principal’s office and transferred to different high school in the city that day(.Boca Ciega HS I think). The teacher was well aware of what was going on in that room and handled it very low key on each occasion. I found out later that many teachers would not go into that room by themselves as there had been many many–incidents over the decades.
I was not a real believer in ghost until that senior year in high school when i saw it all first hand. The standing policy at SPHS by the staff was never to publicly discuss any incidents and never comment to anyone who asked for info. My teacher was Mr. Smith and he taught earth science and other courses in that class room…

  4. I was a student there from ’64-’66 and had a class in that room with Adrian Davis who taught Lab Biology. Although nothing visible happened while I was in class, there was one day when there was a wiff of perfume in the room – which Davis claimed happened several times during his tenure – usually after something visibly happened all by itself. Once he told us a stack of papers on a desk/table away from the windows (there was no A/C back in the day so windows were always open) suddenly left the table they were sitting on and shot out into the air….just like a deck of cards…..and then, that same (always the same) perfume aroma. I’m sure others who had Adrian as a teacher can relate several of his ghostly encounters up on the third floor.

  5. I was told by my father that a student back in the 50s or 60s fell down the stairs between the second and third floors and died. The class she was leaving was the science lab. Not sure if it’s true or not because I’ve never bothered to research it, but I’ve heard the same story from multiple people through the years.

  6. i go in the bell tower/attic often (don’t ask) and hear talking and foot steps a lot. it always feels like there’s another student there with me or the administrators are checking the area because stuff gets knocked around but no ones there. There is a possibility it could be coming underneath from the classrooms so one day i decide to stay after school until almost everyone left. As i’m walking on the plywood path i get a cold breeze on the back of my neck (no AC) i turn around to the sound of a female voice whispering from a distance. i walk towards the source but it fades away. i don’t know much about the school and its past but i believe there’s a spirit hanging around. next time i’m bringing a ouija board.

  7. All of your stories still go around the school today. Except the 3rd floor you all are talking about in the bell building is locked up due to mishaps. None of my teachers will tell me anything. There is also supposedly a ghost on the third floor of the main building. Usually you can spot his shadow sometimes. There is also 2 more ghosts in the auditorium. Although I’ve heard nothing about it.

My mother taught Calculus, Geometry and Trig at SPHS in the 70’s. I am visiting St. Pete soon and want to visit haunted places in St. Pete so I typed in ‘haunted places in St. Pete and this came up. Ha! Ha!

  9. When I graduated back in ’87, I there was a rumor of second-floor bell building being haunted by an old professor, her long dress looking like velvet. I only saw her once, but it sure was frighting when I did
