Hotel Indigo - Martha Washington Hotel

You are here Home  > Hotels and Inns >  Hotel Indigo - Martha Washington Hotel

This hotel dates back to 1926, but has had several names – “Martha Washington Hotel,” “Heritage Hotel,” and now, most recently, “Hotel Indigo”. A 1987 renovation seems to have led to the appearance of a ghostly little girl, seen on the third-floor landing. Later, the figures of an older man and a woman in a wheelchair were seen in the lobby.

  1. I sayed here back in 2012. Around 3 AM there were sounds of children giggling and 2 sets of loud footsteps running the halls. I checked with the clerk in the morning, and being low season, I was one of 4 occupied rooms on the floor. Quite an eerie feeling throughout as well. Amazing hotel though, if you get a chance to stay here, DO IT!

  2. I stayed here and heard the door handle being twisted like someone was trying to get in around 3:00 am. I ran to the door thinking that possible a drunk person was lost. When I looked out the peep hole no one was there.

  3. I remodled the hotel and changed it from the heritage hotel to the hotel indigo. my crew and i experienced many things from door knocks on adjoining rooms to ours that were being remodled to going to bed with the bathroom lights off and door shut only to wake with lights on and door open. Strange cigar smells and running footsteps with no one there. Housekeepers and employees wouldnt work alone and pizza delivery called us from lobby refusing to come onto our floor which was the 3rd. very interesting building never a quiet night stayed there 3 months.

  4. May 21, 2017….my husband and I stayed in rm 103, at 1:30 in tge morning he woke up to someone getting into bed with him and holding his hand. Very cold, sandpaper like skin. He looked over and sawit wasn’t me, and looked back and now his hand was on the pillow. Then a cold rush enveloped his whole body and someone was holding his feet together. He knew it was a woman, due to the feel of her hands. He’s never experienced anything like this and I am sooo jealous! ! Lovely hotel too.

  5. On my first night in room 102, I had an experience. I was sleeping soundly when I was woken up by the bed moving. It felt like my husband was getting into bed, but my husband wasn’t with me on this trip. I thought to myself, “I need to turn on the light,” but I couldn’t move. Then the bed moved again. When I tried to look at the other side of the bed, I saw a man’s hand coming around me as if to snuggle.

Her name is Sarah. Me and my family stayed one night there. Nothing happened even though there was an odd and eerie feeling while walking about. It was a normal hotel stay. However a few days later at home, strange things started happening. Since this is a comment area only, I will refrain from telling the whole story. The point was a girl spirit befriended my three year daughter and followed us home. She stayed with us for the entire summer that year. My daughter played with her every day. My daughter is almost seven now and a few weeks ago, completely out of the blue, she asks me about Sarah. Mom, why doesn’t Sarah come over anymore? She continued to ask if I could find her phone number and ask her to come over, that she misses her old friend. My daughter always thought she was real like her other friends. It was certainly an interesting summer. My husband was pretty upset at me for picking that hotel.

  7. Long story short, me and my girlfriend stayed on floor 2 and were woken up twice between the hours of 1-3am by SPRINTING down the hallways with what sounded to be a chain link. At first we figured it was someone running after their dog on a leash and didn’t think much of it. The second time we both realized it wasn’t anything logical. The sound was so heavy, like boots running a 40 yard dash at NFL combine. Never had an experience like this before. One of the concierge guys told us that no one had ever been hurt but he’s heard many stories similiar to ours in his years working there.

  8. Yes!! I stayed on the second floor in December 2017 with my soccer club, and we were woken up at 3am by the heavy running up on the 3rd floor. We thought it was girls on one of the younger teams, but they had an early game the next morning and swore it wasn’t them. The staff told us it was a little girl named Sarah. In fact, each staff member had an interesting story to tell. One checked a guest in, but he came back down a few minutes later claiming that there was already a woman in a yellow dress fixing her hair in his room. His wife validated that he had been talking to someone in the room. However, when they went back up to check, there was no one there. apparently, a woman in a yellow dress also haunts the place, and he had been talking to her. There have also been stories of an old man in a wheel chair giving people chills.
