This road isn’t haunted. I moved from the Midwest to Salem Woods just off Salem Church Rd. in 1995 and I have not seen a ghost on Salem Church Rd. in my entire 21 years. I’ve never even heard of such a “ghost family”. To the best of my knowledge, there have been minimal accidents on Salem Church Rd., and those that DO occur are usually due to weather conditions, during rush hour, or after bar hours (2am-ish). There ARE some haunted locations nearby, such as Old New Castle and Cooches Bridge, but any local can tell you Salem Church Rd. hasn’t seen any paranormal activity.

      • I lived in Newark for 30 years I never heard this story but it doesn’t mean this story isn’t true have you tried investigating the site BTW there are two sections of Salem church road

I totally agree with you! I’ve lived in Bear since 1990, and New Castle before that for 10 years and NEVER heard of such a story or seen anythjbg ghost like on that road which I’ve drven on at midnight hubdred of times in 25 years! I don’t know where this person got their story from but should have investigated it more before publishing!

  2. Oh the woods are behind Salem Village very creepy my son has many stories of walking they at night something touching him on shoulder turn nothing there being chased he and his friends it wasn’t imagination either. I have walked thru at night feels like nothing but eyes on you granted yes wildlife my younger son found a automatic shot gun sticking up out of mud that looked like a stick that had been in there a long time we turned it over to the police. It was very rusted those woods are very unsettling beautiful during the day so dark at night you can’t see 2 feet in front of you. Creepy as Hell !

  3. I have lived on Salem Church Rd since i was 3. I have never seen the mentioned family of spirits but we have heard many of strange bumps in the nights. Part of our property is wooded and in the evenings, one more than 2 occasion we have heard banging and what sounds like the tinking of metal, coming from the woods. Of course we investigate to assure no one is on our property. We’ve never seen a soul.
There are a ton of accidents on this road, at all hours of the day.
I also am not typically out at midnight.

  4. I have seen something exactly like this just up the road at Gender road. I’ve seen them a few times now, so I googled and found this. Weird.

  5. I totally agree with Jen the Great! I have lived in New Castle County, Delaware in the Bear/Newark area for 40 years. I have never heard of such a story in that area during this time, nor is there an increase of accidents there too! I have also driven many, many times on Salem Church Road between 11 PM and 3 AM and never seen anything such as a ghost or ghost family. I don’t know where this person got this story from, but they got it wrong. Sorry!!

Grew up on Salem Church Road and have never seen or heard anything about ghosts. There were a lot of living people on that road that would scare you but not the dead.

  8. I have never heard of any stories on Salem church road, but that part where it meets Gender Rd has always freaked me out since I was a kid. I have never been down that road and don’t plan on it. Has anyone else felt this? I know of one person who has the same feeling as me on this.

  9. I have heard of a lot of stories about ghost huntings in Bear but never on that road. I have never seen anything but at times do feel strange when driving past that spot. I am one that has seen spirts before with my son, together we have seen them, but again not on this road. If you have never seen any ghosts I can understand you staying that you don’t believe but there are those who have seen and heard ghosts that do believe. So don’t put those people as not being real. Those who have never seen just once will do it for you to see. Lol, When you do get the chance to see it once in your lifetime, don’t freak out most of them will not hurt you.
