Riddle House

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  Riddle House

The Edwardian house built in 1905 in West Palm Beach was moved to historical park Yesteryear Village at the South Florida Fairgrounds, Royal Palm Beach. It was originally a funeral parlor until its purchase by Karl Riddle in the 1920s, after which it was a private home. It is haunted by Joseph, an employee of Karl Riddle, who hanged himself in the attic rather than face his financial troubles. The ghost does not like men, and has been known to attack them. The place has been featured on TV’s Ghost Adventures.

  1. When ever I walk in that house I get a wired feeling like my hart is slowly filling up my chest an will stop beating at any time… It’s fricken crazy.

  2. I have always gone to the south fla fair every year, each visit I have always felt as if I were being followed but only near the houses in the yesteryear village. I just found this site that really better explains on the Erie thought that I was being followed by GHOSTS’ this takes the Erie out of Erie , I have always been a fan of the supernatural and thus proves nothing but my thought on the subject, I really have no hard proof of my theory but I always keep an open mind . Ghosts DO EXIST AND I DONT CARE IF NOONE BELIEVES ME!!

    • To Ryan, I was there in January of 2014 and went to there by getting a ticket for the South Florida Fair, and just so happen to went into Yesteryear Village,, on the far right corner near the old church, was the Riddle House, I went in there with my mother and say a woman dressed in old clothes, I asked her if she saw anything and some people were around me so she says no, not to scare them off.. I think the ghosts are in there, I could not get in the attic though cause they have it locked up. She claimed that the workers left stuff up there, which I don’t believe. Would I go back there,, yes.

  3. This house was removed from its original location and transported to the South Florida Fairgrounds. I can’t imagine that any indwelling spirits would be amused.

  4. I was at the South Florida Fair about six years ago in the evening, and we went into the Riddle House. At the time, i didnt know about the haunting. When we followed the docent up the stairs, i did feel a small shiver like something passed me.
When we reached the top of the stairs, the front door slammed shut and the young docent jumped. She said the door had been slamming shut a lot that evening. I suggested propping it open with a chair and she gave me a strange look.
Since i have been back a few times during the day, i now realize the front door opens inward; so a stray brreze wouldnt make it forcefully slam shut! There is an odd boy doll on the sofa, but no docents have any info to say about him. Weird.

  5. when I found out that the riddle house was haunted, I had to investigate! I was a volunteer for the fair of 2014. I went in with my camera phone hoping to catch something eerie. Sadly, nothing. I ended up lingering in several rooms taking interesting shots. I felt nothing abnormal either. I do believe in the spirits that dwell there I just believe in timing… in one of the other buildings in yesteryear village has a photo album of the house and the apparitions that have been seen. never be disappointed, just visit again or ask a local whens best to visit. haha looking at the pictures now make me feel like something could be there…

  6. “Stalked By Spirits: True Tales of a Ghost Magnet” by Vivian Campbell has a complete chapter about the Riddle House. Vivian lived in the Riddle House during her college years at Palm Beach Atlantic, during which time the house was used as a girls’ dorm. The book is available through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Llewellyn Publishers, or any major bookstore (online or local).

  7. I have been to this house several times. Not once did I see, hear, or feel anything. I even did the ghost tour they do. It was booooring!!! Waste of money. Yes, the stories I heard were pretty creepy, but I was disappointed.
