The Glen Tavern Inn

There is a variety of ghostly activity reported at the Glen Tavern Inn. People claim to see full body apparitions, a ghost who likes to play the piano and assorted poltergeist activity that occurs. Some guests report that there belongings have been knocked off their dressers by unseen “presences”. If you are looking for a haunted room, your best bet might be room 307.

Ambrose Hall

At this hall in St. Ambrose University, witnesses have reported hearing strange noises and footsteps late at night. They have also seen flickering lights. Some attribute the occurrences to the spirit of an old priest who died many years ago.

General Dodge House

Folks say General Dodge himself is still hanging about the grounds. If you take a guided tour through the building, you may catch a glimpse of him sitting in his rocking chair. Around the grounds, light flashes and the smell of fire have been reported. Another strange occurrence that may happen here: If you stand in the middle of the street at dusk some say you can hear the ghostly sound of two men arguing. Please make sure there are no cars coming!

Terrace Hill

At this 1860s historic building, home of the governor of Iowa, the ghost of a little girl has been seen. She is transparent, and some say she likes to work the elevator, even though it is only supposed to operate by the use of codes.

Stagecoach Inn Museum

The Stagecoach House, formerly an inn and a museum, is now a private residence, so please respect the owners’ privacy. The building is said to be haunted by the Baker family, who used to own and run the museum and are buried in a nearby graveyard.

220 North 4th - Keokuk

Built by businessman Enos H. Harrison in 1857, this house is reported to be the home of a friendly ghost, according to many witnesses who have seen and heard the spirit.

The Yellow Hotel

The building was a brothel in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Strange lights, voices and an oppressive uneasy feeling were reported in the building. However, in 2012 the owner had it intentionally burned down by the fire department.

Townsend Hotel - Townsend Justice Center

The former hotel is now the county courthouse, but folks say the haunts don’t mind. Voices are heard on the upper floors, and the smell of brewing coffee, a remnant from the building’s hotel days, wafts on the air.

Atlas Theatre

Folks say this historic theater, built in 1887, is haunted by at least two ghosts. They play tricks and their voices show up on tape recordings; also orbs have been reported.

The Dome Room - Excalibur Nightclub

This night club is said to be haunted by presences that linger from when it was once used as a makeshift morgue, during the Eastland Disaster in 1915.
