This historic inn, built in 1835 by Colonel Andrew Mann and believed to have been a stop on the Underground Railroad, is said to be haunted by a Lady in Red. The ghost is usually seen only by a glimpse as she moves through the hallways, but has also been seen standing at one of the windows late in the night. There is one guest room that folks say she insists on keeping the door closed; this is the room that witnesses feel belonged to her while she was alive.

I’m not so sure about this haunting. I’ve lived in Marshall all my life, and my mother worked at the National House Inn for many years, and she heard from more than one person that the Lady in Red was just a story, nothing more. But who knows?
I lived there with my father several years ago when it was apartments. Wasn’t haunted then
We did a little investigating and tried to get some EVPs when we were staying there one night. It’s an old building with some uneven and creaky floorboards that can make you feel a bit strange, but we did not come up with any evidence leading to the paranormal. It’s a very cool and historic B&B that in our opinion is not haunted. But, you never know…
