According to local lore, she fell in love with a shady gambler and gave him her life’s savings, after which he skipped town, leaving her broke. The distraught Elizabeth killed herself by jumping out the hotel window into Coal Creek. The ghost is said to bang pots and pans and slam doors.

  1. Meeker Colorado circa 1980, sleepeing in my van alongside the Meeker Massacer site. i.30 am woke up to horse hoof noises as did my dog. We listed to mumbled voices as they passed by. Tried to sleep but doog was as nervous as I so I tried to start the van and the battery was low. Eventualy started and we got the ……. out of there to a wide spot down the road to finish sleeping.
Have had my share of ghostly encounters. 4 yrs age at the Yampa Hotel. I rented a room just to experience the night while working in Steamboat Springs. I turned out to be the only occupent for the evening and the management was doing a remodel. Very active to a point of highly nervous and scary noises after 1 am till pre dawn. Had lived in a ranch house on Sweetwater Creek in Eagle County 30 years back. Lots of poltagiest activity, cold spots, in autible voices and touching girl friend.. Shall I go on?

  2. I was staying in room #2 and someone was shaking the bed. Not a vibration folks but a slow steady rocking for at least a minute or so. Scared the crap out of me.

  3. My husband and I stayed here 6 or 7 years ago. When we were in the room there was a clock radio plugged into the wall. We turned it on and when we were leaving to go out to eat we couldn’t turn the radio off. I unplugged the radio and it kept playing. I turned it over to see if there were batteries in the radio and there weren’t any. We just went on our way and let her listen to her music. Supposedly we stayed in the same room where she jumped out of the window.
