Dunleith Historic Inn was built in 1855 and sits atop the site of John Routh’s 18th-century plantation Routhlands. It is said to be haunted by the apparition of a woman who plays the harp.

We stayed there not knowing it was haunted. We stayed in one of the 4 bedrooms on the top floor which appeared that it used to be the attic. During the late hours of the night we kept hearing what we thought was kids running up and down the hall and found out the next morning we were the only ones on that floor. And when we woke up the next morning all of the drawers in the vanity and dresser were pulled all the way open.
We stayed at Dunleith recently for two nights.
I also did not know the history of hearing things here
And both nights was awakened at around 3:15 am to the sound of children running and playing in the hallway outside our door.
We were in one of the four rooms on the second floor and were the only ones staying in the house.
Stayed there one night only, but I believe it was in a section that was rebuilt after a fairly recent fire. No noise other than drunk people, I think. The tour guide, David, was mesmerizing and
amusing. The Castle restaurant, on the grounds, is just about the best restaurant in Natchez. It’s lovely, but no ghosts.
We are currently staying in room 304. Lovely room with two master suites. Anyway, we were exhausted last night and turned in around 10:45. Around 1:30 am I woke up and the lamp was turned on next to the bed. Also, we kept hearing thumps. Odd. Looking forward to tonight’s visit.
About 5 years ago we stayed in what I believe they said was originally the slaves quarters and I woke up because I heard a weeping woman. I thought my friend with me was upset so I said nothing. The next morning I asked if she was okay and if she was crying the night before. She declined and said I thought it was you.
Me and two friends came recently to do a visit and a couple of photos. No tour guide was available so we walked the premises ourselves. Two black females and one Caucasian female and two black children. Each of us adults began to feel suffocated but neither of us said anything to not alarm the other person. This occurred on the second floor. But when it became unbeareable, we each said we had to leave the house because we said we felt like we couldn’t breath or we were being choked. And even as we left he property, our breathing restored to normal but we each felt the presence of multiple people watching us; yet there was no one there. As we drove away from he property, the feeling left. None of us knew the history of the house. We just thought it was beautiful and wanted to take a picture.
