Dead Women Crossing
Weatherford, OK · Miscellaneous
This small community has a haunting name with a story behind it. Its origin is said to be a story involving Katie DeWitt James, a schoolteacher, and Fannie Norton, alleged to be a prostitute. When Katie filed for divorce in 1905, she took her baby on the train and went to live with her cousin. She was never heard from again. It was discovered that she had spent a night at the house of William Moore and had been seen leaving in a buggy with his sister-in-law, Fannie Norton, who later returned alone. Detectives found the baby unharmed, having been given to a boy by Fannie Norton; the baby's clothing was bloody. Katie's body was discovered, head severed, near Deer Creek. The details of the murder are unclear to this day. The sister-in-law denied murdering Katie, but committed suicide by poisoning the day she was questioned. In these parts, a blue formless light has been reported, as well as the sound of a ghostly woman crying for baby.

Four years ago I took a trip to this location with some friends. While we were there I took around twenty photos on my cell phone. Once home we all began to look at the photos. In the photos you can see a figure riding somethings on the hill side. While we were out there we never noticed this. In the photos you can clearly see that the figure moves from one side to the other. In the photos before the figure is not there and in the photos after. The week after I began to show the photos to a friend and my phone had short circuited. The people at pioneer cellular said all my photos would be safe on the chip. However when I put the chip in my new phone all of the photos were gone. I believe that I had evidence of ghost on that phone.

Dead Woman's Crossing. It was never a community and the actual crossing is about a quarter mile east of the pic of this bridge. I grew up around there.

You have to remember this was in 1905

I have no idea what your comment means relative to rginn's comment but everything rginnn said is correct. If you're on the modern bridge you're about a 1/4 mile away from where you need to be.
