  1. after the man who built the inn, mr. Curry, died he left his money to his children and one of his sons Robert spent it very quickly after he lost all his money and his wife divorced him he hung himself in the bathroom.

In 1975, as a 7 year old girl, I lived in the Curry Mansion for a short time. At that time it was still a private residence and was for sale. My dad was a Marine Patrol Officer and he was friends with the realtor. We had sold our place on Stock Island and were waiting for the house we were buying to become available, so Nick, the realtor, suggested we stay there for a few months while we waited, and keep an eye on it for him at the same time. As a young girl I knew nothing about the house except that something about it scared me. I always felt like I was being watched. Being alone in the bathroom was terrifying. I would sleep on my back with the covers up to my neck (and it was hot!) because I felt safer that way. I didn’t know it then but as an adult I’ve come to understand what I was experiencing. These were the days before cable and ghost hunting shows. The fear I felt was not put there by suggestion – it was a natural, innate fear of something I didn’t know anything about – I just felt it. After we moved out I did not go back for 40 years, but when I did, they remembered me, and again, I felt it.
