Cedar Mountain - Spirit Mountain

You are here Home  > Miscellaneous >  Cedar Mountain - Spirit Mountain

Cedar Mountain was once called Spirit Mountain in reference to the many people who have been lost in the area’s many caves. The caves and canyon are said to be haunted, and ghostly footsteps have been heard by visitors. Longtime residents say “little people” occupy this site. The caves are closed to public access, but some reports say one can get permission to explore here by registering with the forest service.

  1. My brother and I were camping on Cedar and were wrapping up camp due to rain. It was dark. We always have bear and other critter encounters so we’re always aware of our surroundings. He was assisting me in gathering my hammock. He said, what was that! He said he heard something so we listened. I thought he was full of it. We both heard this metal on metal sound that nothing in nature could possibly make. It was spooky. Like someone was up there and they banged a tin cup on tin pan. We had to go strait to the noise to get out of the area. The rain and wind made escaping worse. We couldn’t explain the noise. We were hanging out at the mouth of the cave prior to this incident. We had strange things happening then also. Cedar mountain is a very spiritual place. It is also called spirit mountain. I’ve walked up on many strange rock formations and old native American grave sites. They used to bury their dead there. Allot of strange lights have been seen and allot of meteor activity. Like sky rocks are attracted to the area of Cedar and Rattlesnake mountains. I’ve also heard rumors of little people. I pay my respects whenever entering the area. I leave tobacco and respect the land by picking up trash as I tred. It is said that they taunt you if you disrespect them or the land and animals. I fear them almost. The pryor mountains are also haunted by the little people. I’ve heard tails of hunters resting. They wake up from a nap and their shoes are tied together. Heard other mischievous tales about them as well.
