C. C. Cohen Building

You are here Home  > Restaurants and Bars >  C. C. Cohen Building

C.C. Cohen’s restaurant closed around 2010, and is now reported to be called Shandies. The place is rumored to be haunted by the ghost of Stella Cohen Peine, the last member of the Cohen family, who died in her apartment upstairs. Chairs move by themselves, salt and pepper shakers fall over, lights flicker, and movements appear in reflections. Photos taken of the building sometimes show a woman looking out the upstairs window, although that room is now used only for storage.

  1. I snapped a photo of the Cohen building Saturday night. It looked to us like someone was peeking out of the upstairs window. This was before we knew anything about the building or that it is said to be haunted. I will try and attach the picture I took. If you zoom in on the top right window with the broken shade it looks like a face is peering out the window.

    • This was around the time my father was working out a deal to buy those apartments including where she died but the offers never went through!

  2. I took this photo back in July 2010 but in the grainy image over by the bar is as far as I know the only known full apparition of Stella. I’ve had many encounters with her as I’ve been on the second floor before.
