Built by Godfrey Barnsley in 1844, the ruins of the mansion are said to be haunted by Godfrey himself, his wife Julia, and a Confederate soldier who may be Colonel Robert Earle, killed on these grounds during the Civil War.

  1. We were there during Easter Sunday and stopped at the small store near the museum to purchase our tickets to get in. We were told it was free to get in on Easter Sunday (or Sundays) so we all went in. As luck would have it there was an Easter Egg Hunt on the grounds in which our two children, age 6 and 7 participated. They had tons of fun and everyone there was so gracious. We are from Canada and we were made to feel right at home with everyone. We took the guided tour of Barnsley Gardents (Everyone should go,- so cool). Again, as luck would have it we won a free nights stay in the free prize draws held right after the Easter Egg hunt. We elected to stay that same night.
Well, we were enjoying our time there and we thought ‘hey, lets’ go up to the Mansion and look around during the late evening” Since it was about 10 pm. we thought ‘why not’. I, along with my two 20-something daughters and my 7 year old daughter decided to make our way to the Mansion. We go there and just as we approached a small, tiny, miniscule stream that ran across the road/path to the mansion, my seven year old daughter said ‘I DON”T want to go there!” She was frantic, crying and very upset. I tried very hard to convince her it was ok and nothing would happen to her. She refused and wanted to go back to the cottage. I managed get her to agree that we would not set one more foot toward the mansion but we would not go back either. We were about 30 to 40 feet from the building. I was very disappointed but I agreed to stay with her there while the two older daughters went up the very brightly lit mansion to look around.
I pulled out my camera and got there attention so i could take a picture of them standing in the lit up mansion. They stayed about 20 minutes looking around and enjoying the time in the lit-up mansion. The rest of the night there was uneventful. No ghosts, bad feelings, scary senses, etc.
We left the next day about 3 or 4 pm to finish out our vacation in Miami, Florida.
We got back home from Miami, Florida vacation (stayed at Westgate Resorts btw-awesome stay) and took our film in for developing. We could clearly see Beelzebub – Devil – Evil (picture a huge, well-muscled, mountain of a man with an evil, deadly-looking, goat/sheep/ram’s head with accompanying horns that curve around his deadly looking head) standing with his arms folded just behind and in the center of the two young women. Ghostly, pale image of Beelzebub but very visible. He was completely standing there looking at the camera.
About a month later, we were visiting our friend, a Native American seer, Minnie Dubuc of Tuscarora Nation, in Sandford, NY. She immediately told us to burn the picture and the negative. She was very clear that he, Beelzebub, was intent on travelling with us and he would bring great harm to us if we did not destroy all traces of his image. Up until then, we thought it was a ‘cool ghost story’ to tell our friends and we didn’t realize the harm and jeopardy we had placed on ourselves by visiting Barnsley Garden Mansion in the night hours. Minnie was so adamant on us taking this very seriously as she said ‘we risk everything’ if we don’t destroy the image. We immediately destroyed everything when we got back to London, Ont, our home. We even had to think twice about her advice, showing the huge power the picture had in our lives. We are so glad we decided to destroy the picture and negative.
The seven year old was right.

  2. Worked there for 5 years, saw and heard some strange stuff. Had Buffalo for years to help appease the spirits. There is even a history Channel story with Donna Martin in it, a long time employee. I took a picture at midnight in the medow one night and there were hundreds of orbs.
