Adolphus Hotel

You are here Home  > Hotels and Inns >  Adolphus Hotel

This 1912 hotel is home to many spirits, according to the local lore. Among them are a sad bride who was said to be jilted in the 1930s and hanged herself–she haunts the 19th floor. Witnesses have seen her apparition, and with it heard her sobbing and the sound of a music box. Another hotel haunt is a woman who was a regular bistro customer whose death didn’t stop her from visiting her favorite haunt, so to speak. Also reported here have been episodes of people being touched by unseen hands, windows flying open with blasts of cold, footsteps (although the floors are now carpeted), feelings of being watched, and the sound of swing music or distant pianos.

    1. I am currently staying on the 16th floor of The Adolphus. Two nights ago, my briefcase fell off the desk in my room for an unknown reason. I picked it up not suspecting anything. Then yesterday morning, I had just gotten out of bed at 5:15 and was in the bathroom when I heard what sounded like a music box playing. I thought it was someone’s alarm clock but it played continuously for 20 minutes. I ignored it and went on my business of the day. However, later that afternoon, my colleagues staying in The Adolphus said it was haunted. This was the first I had heard of this. When I looked online, I now see that the music box playing is a commonly heard sound when the ghost of this woman is near. I don’t know what room the ghost stayed in when alive but it would be interesting to know. I don’t believe in any of this but I do find it intriguing.

    2. I stayed at the Adolphus from Dec. 26-29, 2014. The last night of the 29 Monday morning about 5:00 am I felt someone or something tug at my sheets (that I was covered with) near my right foot. My wife was near the center of the bed and I was on the right side of the bed face up. First I felt like something went over my right foot very lightly (I was face up in the bed) then I felt something tug at the sheet (pulled down on the sheet). I opened my eyes, looked around, my wife was to my left asleep, nothing. About ten seconds later with my eyes open someone/something pulled on my sheet, same place, but nothing was there. I got up, turned on the lights, and looked around for maybe a mouse, but nothing. My wife new I was not playing around because I left the light on to go to sleep, but I couldn’t sleep. Anyway, I didn’t know paranormal activities happened at the hotel until my wife told me once we had left hotel that morning.

    3. The summer of 2013 my FFA chapter was in Dallas for the FFA convention, on the first night everything was fine, the next morning getting ready to leave was the weird thing, the bags were being moved and my friend felt someone touch her, that night one of my teachers and one of the seniors (both guys) decided to check out the 19th floor….when they got there they heard a ladies voice say “you should be dead”

    4. Recently me and my buddies actually went up to the 19th floor with the help of one of my buddies that knew how to get there so we waited till 3am to go so we made our was to the 19th floor and took a workers elevator once the elevator door opened you can feel the energy (you felt heavy and hard to breath) we didn’t stay there long tho but we did experience the elevator door opening to the 19th floor not letting us leave

    5. I stayed the night in March 2012 and didn’t know about it’s haunted history, until a bartender told us that the penthouse and the 19th floor where the most active areas,so of course my friends and I went to check it out. Wait first went to where the penthouse was and didn’t feel anything so went to the elevator to go to the 19th floor and I felt fine but as soon as we stepped on to the 19th floor I immediately started having like vertigo symptoms and feeling very disoriented and nauseous. I told my other friends that were looking for the entrance to the ballroom had been long closed down that I was just going to stay by the doors and elevator cuz I didn’t feel well, but when they came back and we got back on the elevator and the doors closed I immediately felt normal again I thought it was the strangest thing. We then decided it was probably time to head off to her rooms and go to bed and when I was settling into bed I started to feel like I couldn’t breathe and my friend that was staying with me I asked them because I kept hearing this strange sound like music they didn’t hear it. I checked my phone and had them check their phone both of our phones the sound and notifications were all the way down so it wasn’t our phones we were on the edge of the hotel so there was no rooms really on most sides of us I kept hearing this noise they started to get irritated with me cuz I didn’t hear it so eventually I just splash water on my face and went to sleep. And when I got home the next day I looked up the history of the hotel and saw the bridehood hung herself and that sometimes when you hear or the bride is near you you will hear the sound of music box I have learned since that I’m very highly sensitive to spiritual energies because I’ve had many more experiences since this first one, and I really believe that I was feeling what she felt when she hung herself.
I plan on going back one day and investigating more I wasn’t afraid it was just very interesting which led me to further I’ll look for more experiences other places!
