The 1930s Capitol building is said to be haunted by the ghost of a woman as well as the spirit of a maintenance man who perished of a heart attack on the job. Some believe the 2 ghosts actually died in a 1921 fire; others dispute that claim.

Has anyone or do you know if there is anyone out there that has ever had paranormal ( Ghostly experience) in the old Columbia Gas Building in Charleston WV. I use to work there in that building worked on the 3rd and 4th floor.
So, the WV State Capitol building actually refers to two separate locations. The fire noted in 1921 refers to the Old Capitol Annex, located on the corner of Lee and Hale Streets, which burned down in 1921 and wherein two people were killed by falling debris. The Old Capitol Annex would later be rebuilt and inhabited by the Kanawha County Public Library until it was sold to the National Bank of Commerce and demolished in 1967.
Immediately following the 1921 fire, the state capitol would move into a hastily constructed building that was derisively referred to as the “pasteboard capitol” located near the original Capitol Annex site. The idea was to move into a newly constructed building on the original site, an idea quickly abandoned when the property on Kanawha Boulevard was made available. The “pasteboard capitol” would also burn down in 1927 – though with no serious injuries or fatalities.
Finally, the WV state capitol would move into its current, gold domed location on Kanawha Boulevard in 1932 where it is said that two ghosts haunt the halls. One ghost is an ambiguous woman, and the other is said to be the electrician who had a heart attack on the job. The theory that the two ghosts are from the original 1921 fire makes little sense if you consider that the Old Capitol Annex and the New Capitol Building are at completely separate locations, not to mention that the New Capitol Building’s ghosts are a man who died during construction and a woman, vs the two men who died during the fire.
