The Henry Hotel

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  The Henry Hotel

The historic building was built around 1895 as a boarding house for black workers, and was bought by a local family during a time of racial segregation. Serving as the first ‘coloured’ hotel in town as the owners advertised it, the establishment attracted many notable musicians during its time. Although the hotel is no longer in operation today, visitors have reported various instances of paranormal activity. Passer-by’s have reported seeing a young man in overalls standing on the porch, while some have apparently heard loud footsteps and a scolding woman’s voice. Others claim to have jazz music emanating from the empty building at night, but upon investigation have found nothing.

The energy the house emits is powerful and comforting it doesn’t seem like its empty and haunted at all its like a welcome here feeling

  2. I spent one night there in 1969. I did not know about the history of the place at that time. Although I didn’t see or hear anything out of the ordinary, something about the place just wasn’t right. My nervous system was on constant, near panic mode the entire time I was there. I just knew that someone or something was watching me. I laid awake, wide-eyed and could not sleep a wink all night. I left very early the next morning.
