This old hotel, established in 1797, is haunted by Rachel, among other spirits. Rachel is believed to be the spirit of a Civil War nurse who seems to be looking for soldiers to help. Guests say she opens their drawers and removes the clothing from them. Other ghosts who reside here are a wounded soldier and a woman who appears dancing in the ballroom.

I know of two haunted locations (one a church, one a private residence) in the rural area between Gettysburg and Harrisburg, but my informant and the property owners do NOT want the locations made public, so I cannot enter them on this site in the usual manner. Suffice it to say they are both roughly north of Gettysburg and south of Harrisburg.

Both are intermittent nuisance-level poltergeist activity — lights turning on or off by themselves when nobody’s looking, small objects disappearing and reappearing inside a certain closet, a sensation of SOMETHING moving past through a doorway without getting a good look at it. “Blink and you’ll miss it” stuff.

I personally witnessed the last (SOMETHING moving) at the church in the summer of 2015. Something moving in a hallway past the open door; all I could see was the direction of movement (left-to-right), the size (approximately man-sized), and the speed (a fast walking pace). Just a glimpse of something going past, too fast for me to make out any details or even a shape. Once you notice there’s something there, it’s gone and never repeats.
