Terrace Hill

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  Terrace Hill

At this 1860s historic building, home of the governor of Iowa, the ghost of a little girl has been seen. She is transparent, and some say she likes to work the elevator, even though it is only supposed to operate by the use of codes.

  1. Well when I was there on a field trip when I was in elementary school I had a weird paranormal experience (which I thought was kinda awesome) so of course there is acrylic oil paintings that’s of a young/ little boy on one side and a young/ little girl on the other side of the big staircase in the main hallway and when you walk up the one set of stairs with the painting of the young/ little girl and her eyes seem to follow you and I swear to you that she winked at me and still to this day I can remember that one experience that I had at the Terrance Hill Mansion and I’ll never forget it.

  2. I was there and a young girl offered me to ride I said no and she demanded I get in. Lucky for me, my grandma pulled me away then we left

I lived in the basement of the mansion when I was little (almost 50 years ago) because my parents were caretakers at the time. I never saw a ghost, but I was terrified when playing outside because I always felt like someone was watching me from the windows. I never, ever looked at the house as a result!
