Strand Cinema

This movie house was built in 1929, and became Strand Cinema in 2003. Some say it is home to a ghost who is very angry. The phenomena surrounding the place are said to have begun in 1978 when an apartment was added to the building. Workers took the brunt of the ghosts anger then: They were shocked even when electric tools were not plugged in, tools were thrown about, and stains were splattered all over newly painted walls. A shadowed apparition is reported to have thrown a piece of balcony ceiling into the sets. Handprints also have been found on the movie screen. This is a well-known haunted site and has been written about in several books.

  1. My friends and I went to go see Insidious Chapter 2 when it came out and when my friend Emily and I went into the bathroom her phone played piano noises kinda of like the ones in the movie. She doesn’t have any piano ringtones or anything like that on her phone. I haven’t used the bathroom since.

  2. my friend and i went up into the balcony where theres the hallway and the window at the end. we saw this man standing above the stairs while we were by the window and we walked over and he just walked through the railing and dissapeared.

  3. The shadow man, stayed by my side the entire movie! He,.. I believe was an escort or an over watch personnel from long ago! every 2-3 minuets he would enter my vision slightly off of my left shoulder!

  4. During the most recent renovation when the two new theaters were added I was in the old Men’s room and noticed the door to the basement was open but no lights were on. I closed the door fearing a child might fall down the stairs. When I went to leave I heard the basement door being pounded on. Thinking I had closed the door on someone in the basement I rushed over to open it. There was no one on the other side of the door.

  5. Took my daughter to the Strand with one of her friends. I had this overwhelming feeling of dread and despair while sitting in the balcony. Upon turning my head, I saw someone looking at me from the window in the balcony door. Had a feeling that someone or something was sitting beside me, definitely a malevolent presence.

  6. I just watched a short documentary on this movie theater. In the documentary they said it was haunted by a woman who threw herself off the balcony and that people hear a woman crying in various places through out the theater.
