Room 33 and room 42 are apparently the rooms to get if you want a haunted room. The former is believed to be haunted by the former brothel owner who stayed there and the latter is apparently plagued by the ghost of a young girl who is repeatedly seen trying to enter it.

I stayed here with my sister in 2011 and purposely asked for the haunted room. It was cold and uncomfortable but there were no ghosts.

    3. My girlfriend and I just stayed there a few weeks ago. We experienced a few things in room 33 and didn’t know the story about the painted lady until recently. Apparently a women died in room 33 who lived there and they had to go through a window to check on her. There’s a video on YouTube that explains in more detail of who she was.

Here’s our story in room 33,

Upon entering the room I made a comment to my girlfriend about how I thought it was strange all the artwork in the room was only of women. During our first night in San Francisco after a night out we got back to our room around midnight. When we first opened the door we both commented on how the window was open and how it was definitely closed before we left. We thought house keeping might have opened it, although we thought that was strange due to the “do not disturb” sign we placed on our door before we left. After learning about the women that died in that room and the way they got into the room to check on her was through the window I’m convinced the window being open was not house keeping.

Also during the first night while my girlfriend was asleep I woke her up numerous times stating that the painting of the women adjacent from the bed was moving. While I glimpsed away from the painting I would see the women in the painting turn her head towards me. This happened numerous times during the night and every time when I looked back at the painting it would go back to “normal”. This really creeped me out but my girlfriend convinced me I was just tired. Also during this first night my girlfriend had a moment where she freaked out stating there was someone in the room. She swears she saw a dark 5 feet tall shadow like figure standing by the door. She thought someone was in the room and got my attention and told me she thought she saw someone in the room.

We had NO idea of the stories at the San Remo until we got home but both agreed the hotel is haunted before learning the other experiences people have had.

I can 100% say room 33 is haunted.
