A ghost called Smiling Jack resides at the lovely Roselawn Cemetery. According to local tales, the police got several calls about a person who was trapped inside a mausoleum. When they responded, the police never found anyone, so the locals decided they had a ghost on their hands. He was nicknamed Smiling Jack because in the back of the mausoleum is a stained-glass portrait of the smiling man who was buried there.

  1. I have no experience with any thing around that mausoleum. I had worked there for 13 Yrs. I have heard the stories and it always interested me. Now I believe in spirits
cause I have had an experience with it, but just not there. (Grave digger Giefer)

  2. Growing up in Roseville, many teens were drawn to rose lawn Cemetery, due to the legend of smiling Jack, but I’ve had other experiences there. Multiple times while driving thru that cemetery a friend and I have seen orbs…many at a time and they scatter. I also had an experience where our car broke down late at night and we had to walk home. The next day it was completely fine. That could have been a coincidence…but… The orbs though I know were very real…and I could feel their emotions. I’ve never experienced anything like that before until then. I love that cemetery. Its beautiful, peaceful and very active if they allow you to see them.

  3. My dad said that when he was in high school, he and his friend Steve, and two girls went out to see if the legend of smiling Jack was true. [Apparently it is said that if you look at his portrait and he is smiling, then you are going to die soon]. They started up the hill to the Jack’s mausoleum and saw that the curtains were open. The girls got ahead of them and they decided to circle around them and hide behind some tombstones to scare them. They jumped out at them and they wanted to leave after that. As they were leaving they walked past Jack’s Mausoleum and the curtains were closed.

Johnstone mausoleum, I believe that is the name on Smiling Jack and his wife is also now buried in there as well

  5. Been to this cemetery 3x now and have never had any spooky experiences by smiling jack’s mausoleum. But one night I was there with my 2 friends and we all heard a terrifying growling sound right behind us. It almost sounded demonic. We were the only ones in the cemetery so it couldn’t have been a person. Definitely one of the scariest experiences I’ve ever had. 10/10 would go back

  6. Hi I went and shot pictures with my canon DSLR full spectrum camera with a infrared filter I shot pictures I always check the photos when I get home I use the zoom feature and zoom into my photos I see several faces in the images. I see a man with a hat and beard I see a bald man with sun glasses on and I see a two woman sitting on the ground one in a white gown.
