Port Boca Grande Light

You are here Home  > Lighthouses >  Port Boca Grande Light

The Port Boca Grande Lighthouse was first used on December 31st, 1890. It served local shipping trafic for nearly 80 years before it was finally abandoned in 1969. It nearly fell to complete ruin due to erosion, but Lee County took control of the building in 1972 and eventually began restoration work in the mid 1980s. It has been relit and in constant use ever since 1986.

Several staff-members here have had ghostly experiences. It is said that one lighthouse keeper from long ago had a daughter who died of fever. Her spirit can sometimes be heard in the lighthouse, either humming a tune, bouncing a ball, or playing jacks on the second floor.

I have been there one time. And it was for fishing on Gasparilla Island. The area is beautiful. Visited the light house and had no experiences. No weird feelings. It was a nice lighthouse.
