Orpheum Theatre

You are here Home  > Theaters >  Orpheum Theatre

Built in 1928, the still-operation theater is said to be haunted by many ghosts, but the two most well-known are Mary and a masked figure. Mary, age 9, wears a white dress and pigtails, and is said to have died in a car accident in front of the theater. She watches the performances and greets employees with slamming doors and flickering lights. The masked ghost is said to live in the theater’s upper air ducts and sometimes waves from them during performances.

    1. I was a bartender there for awhile. I was downstairs in the basement where they store liquor, candy, chips, etc. when a Reeses flew off the rack and landed halfway across the room….mary was hit by a trolly and carried into the Orpheum where she died.

    2. I was told that Mary was hit by a horse carriage and a worker brought her into the theater, but at the end of the show she was dead

    3. The usual story is she was hit by a spooked horse while they were working on the orpheum. She was brought in and put in a seat, because she was conscious and thought to be ok,but she had a brain hemorage and died in the seat.
