Old Don Jail, aka the Toronto Jail, opened in 1864 and is now a rehabilitation hospital next to the jail. It’s one of the oldest remaining pre-Confederation buildings in Toronto, and many hangings were held here since 1908. The place’s most well-known spirit is that of a ghost is that of a female prisoner who hanged herself in her cell. She is seen hovering near the main rotunda and has been known to scream from time to time. Visitors sometimes have had unexplained crying episodes while here.

  1. Just wanted to know how to go about gaining permissions to film this location i do a paranormal youtube series called sewer gators where we explore old historic/haunted locations all over ontario . You can find us at Exploring with Brad on youtube

  2. Unfortunately, Only the small section of the Don Jail pictured above is left and is Bridgepoint administration area. The rest of the jail, the haunted areas, was demolished in 2014. As usual, when a building is classified as haunted in Canada, it is a good chance that it will face the wrecking ball. So sad.

  3. My father was sick a few years ago and I went to visit him at Bridgepoint. While I was there I decided to visit the Don Jail. I passed by regularly growing up because I lived in the neighborhood. I wanted to take a tour of whatever was left of it so decided to pop in. It was totally renovated and modernised for the most part. They did try to preserve some of the past and left some parts relatively untouched. I was walking along a corridor and suddenly felt really dizzy and uneasy. I came to realise that I was walking along the corridor to the gallows. Something odd was going on. I had not felt like that the entire time I was there. As soon as I left the feeling of uneasiness and dizziness left. Was it paranormal? It sure seemed pretty convincing at the time when it happened!
