Nanaimo Bastion

You are here Home  > Military >  Nanaimo Bastion

The Nanaimo Bastion is an octagon-shaped fortification built in the 1850s and open to visitors in summer. One ghost here may be Kanaka Pete, who was imprisoned in the Bastion before he was hanged. It’s also said to be haunted by a ghostly woman in a long dress, and an image of a bearded man has shown up in a pattern made by the grain of wood.

  1. I stayed at the Best Western Dorchester 26 August 2022 Room 303 in Nanaimo BC. I went to bed around 8pm. I had to be up at 315am. I was woken at 1am to what sounded like something droping and bouncing around a little in the tub. It was a very clear sound. This freaked me out and I pulled the covers over my head. Realizing how tired I would be in the morning and not to be so silly its an old hotel and the walls are thin I relaxed and went back to sleep. Just to be woken up again at 2 am with the exact same sound this time I heard it crystal clear. I new it wasn’t a sound coming through the walls. When I got up that morning I was saying to myself. Don’t see anything, don’t see anything hahaha.
When I got to work that morning I googled the hotel and found that a ghost by the name of Mrs Mcreedy hangs out on the 3rd floor!
    Super Cool! Super Freaky!

A little historic structure by the water is called the bastion. Despite being so old, it won’t disintegrate any time soon. Nice and accessible for the general public to explore.
