Mersey Tunnel

You are here Home  > Miscellaneous >  Mersey Tunnel

A series of accidents have occurred along this stretch resulting in numerous deaths. Since the 1960’s, a female hitch-hiker has been reported standing on the side of the road, sometimes even manifesting in the middle of the road causing other accidents. About a dozen people died during the construction of this tunnel and sometimes they are seen too.

  1. I had a friend who worked here and he was very down to earth. he said that nobody would go down the disused Birkenhead Dock exit tunnel. When on nights people were very jumpy due to lots of paranormal episodes in this disused tunnel. From the outside it looks very scary, I think this is really haunted , the hitch hiker seems to be a common theme for sightings.

    • My ex husband’s nan’s father was killed in the construction of the tunnel, a lorry reversed, crushing him to death. She told me the story herself and the subsequent struggle of her mother to raise her children alone. Tragic. I wonder if any of the reported sightings are him.
