Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts

You are here Home  > Theaters >  Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts

The center is believed to be haunted by the ghost who may be Mabel herself. She was the daughter of Captain Andrew and Bertha Tainter, who built the nonprofit theater for the community after their beloved daughter died at age 19. Other ghosts have been reported here as well, including apparitions who watch performances and entities who tinker with sound boards or show up as a light puttering around in the storage area.

  1. My mother used to work here. I remember coming into work with her one day as a kid to find cardboard boxes for a fort I was making and she gave me a tour. She took me into a room and I remember feeling like a painting on the wall was following me. I’m definitely going to check this place out.

    • do you remember what room you were in and do you know who we have to go in at night time and see if I can go in at night with other people please get back to me thank you

  2. When I was younger I was in a lot of plays the theatre put on. They told us it was haunted, and back then my dream was to be a paranormal investigator. Pretty funny. I don’t remember really anything paranormal happening to me othe than one night we were having a long rehearsal and I went to the bathroom my myself. I went into the bathroom and saw a young woman looking in the mirror. She had older clothes on, but I didn’t recognize her as one of the cast so I smiled and did my business. When I came out there was no one there. I didn’t hear her leave, and in fact I didn’t hear anything. The only thing i noticed was that it was extremely cold in there. And when I opened the stall door, the temperature was normal again. I don’t know, maybe it was Mabel herself. Just thought I’d share.

  3. I was working a show and I saw on our tv screen, a green orb that came from left stage and sitting center stage. I looked at the stage and nothing was there. After 20 minutes, the orb left right stage.

  4. 8 years ago I was married here. I was in the basement dressing room and had to use the bathroom. My maid of honor and daughter were with to help me with my dress. We went to open the door and it was locked. We knocked on the door and heard a ladies voice say “one minute”. We were talking amongst ourselves and looked down and noticed that the light was off and not showing under the door. We tried the handle again and it opened with no one inside. No one believes us but we know what we saw and heard.
