Kate Shelly High Bridge

You are here Home  > Bridges >  Kate Shelly High Bridge

Local legend tells the tale of 15-year-old Kate Shelley, who in 1881 crawled across a badly damaged bridge during a terrible storm to warn an oncoming train that the bridge was out. This bridge, built in 1901, is said to be her ghost’s home. Phantom trains also have been seen and heard here.

    1. The original Kate Shelly High Bridge is no longer there. The new bridge named the same is NOT where Kate Shelly saved the train full of people.

    2. My grandparents owned the old Shelly property. If anything there was a benevolent presence there; although teens burned it all down by 1985. The old household was on Honey Creek near Moingona, not on the DM river. If you go down there you will note that the original bridge was so cut rate, the foundation is made of limestone.

    3. A so me and my grandpa were there and I heard a girl crying and yelling and Bridge and I think I saw her and it’s oddly and I hear she will punch you off of the bridge
