Elizabeth V. Edwards School, established in 1930 and closed in 2004, is rumored to have a ghost that sets off security systems, makes calls to phones that are not in service, and turns on lights in unoccupied buildings. The identity of the spirit is unknown for sure, but one report mentions a custodian who died from a heart attack in the basement in the 1970s.

  1. I lived across the street from the school and witnessed lights going on and off when there was no electricity running to the building along with the sounds of older styled music ! as well as the misty shape of a man on the second floor and a woman on the second floor

  2. I attended this school until 1966. During the last couple of years I was there, they tore down the old school behind it. It was right after this took place that I experienced several paranormal occurrences in the Edwards’ school. These included an old woman’s ghastly face in the window of the cafeteria door, a full-bodied apparition of the woman staring at us from the south stairwell window and piano music from the auditorium. Prior to the old school being demolished, we used to hear loud, long scratching noises from the basement of the old building. We used to go to the ball field near the old school during recess, that is when we heard the scratching. Although it is possible there is a later haunting as well, but my experiences were way before the custodian’s death. Someone at the TAPS forum also posted a photo of a mist in the auditorium.

  3. My kids went to this school in the 90’s just before it closed down and my daughter said creepy things would happen in the classrooms. An example is that the eraser would not stay on the shelf of the chalkboard.

  4. George did not die in the basement. He had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital in Toms River by ambulance. He lay and suffered for hours before passing away because he needed surgery but couldn’t afford it. My grandmother worked with him so I know this for fact.

  5. my family used to have a restaurant beside the school and I’ve always been spooked out about it and one of my fathers friend went there and he took and picture and you saw a face in the picture of a woman

  6. My paranormal research team is going to investigate there for all others who want to, it is a very safe place no demons or anything like that
