At the historic Rancho Dominguez Adobe Ranch House museum, witnesses have seen orbs and flashes of light move around late at night. The hauntings are believed to stem from a man who was staying at the place when it was a hotel. He was beaten, robbed and left to die nearby.

I attended this place when it was a Catholic seminary. It was called Dominguez Seminary. The use of the seminary was granted by the Doheny family. To the best of my knowledge, there was never any mention of a hotel. I never saw any apparitions there, and I explored the grounds at different hours of the day and night.

The Dominguez Ranch has always remained in the Dominguez family. The Doheny family had nothing to do with this adobe. You probably have this mixed up with Greystone mansion...

Dominguez Adobe House was used as a stage-coach stop over at one time in its long standing history. There is some stories told by local residents from the 40's 50's and 60's that a ghost of a man dressed like Abraham Lincoln or 1800's period clothing and that he "hops" or known as the "hopping man". The most sightings is on Alameda and Del Amo Blvd. Dominguez Adobe is on Alameda Blvd. so there is probably a connection with the Dominguez Ranch and the Ghost known as the "hopping man".

I have done work at the Adobe for the last 15 years. Once, while working late on a project on the hillside below the Adobe, we experienced an encounter with a apparition dressed and moving not unlike the description above of the "hopping man". It was after dark. We were working on some restrooms adjacent to and down the hillside from the Adobe. A worker of mine who is a very nice kid, hardworking and honest, came rushing over to me quite obviously frightened. I was working approximately thirty feet away. He says, "John, John, there's someone over there where I'm working. I really didnt believe him but I went over and looked around and and reassured him that we were alone. He was still scared and wanted to leave. I asked him what the man looked like. He said he was tall and dressed in black but that he really couldn't see his face. The man came from above him and proceeded down the hill towards Alameda St. and disappeared in the gloom.
He said the man was about 15-20 feet away from him. There are a lot of trees there so its gets pretty dark under the canopy. I truly believe he saw something. You just don't make this kind of stuff up on a working job site. And I didn't know about the hopping man until I read that guy's post.
