  1. I worked there in the early 80’s and when the restaurant was The Flying Dutchmen and before the upstairs was gutted and turned into a bar. I’d just come in for prep work around 4:00 p.m. and was on my way to the kitchen when a gentlemen walked by me very quickly. He wore a dark trenchcoat, hat pulled down, and had an odd step to his walk, more like a toe-heel instead of a heel-toe gait. I tried to get his attention, to see what he wanted, but he just kept on walking right on out the side door at the back of the kitchen. I asked the other wait staff and the cooks if they saw the guy and most everyone looked at me as if I lost my marbles/ except one of the waitresses who pulled me aside and asked me all kinds of questions. Turns out that I saw one of the two ghosts that inhabit that location (it was a brothel up until the late 60’s from what I’ve heard). The other is a woman who likes to hang out upstairs where the rooms were back in the day. The rooms were still there, most of them used for storage, an office, and where we kept the surplus ice machine. A few weeks later the same waitress got me to go upstairs to get a bucket of ice, she was too scared to do it. I think I have some sort of affinity for spirits because just as I reached the top of the stairs, a woman floated from one room to another.

    • Thank u kathie I have been looking for a place to set up an investigation here in Benicia and I think u gave me the perfect place, have u ever gone back and asked around to see if its still haunted

  2. I’ve been to this restaurant quiet a couple of times, but never knew why I felt un an cozy presence. There’s a couple of mirrors in there and I always had felt like someone was watching me, the bathrooms are very eerie too. Just reading this article.. Probably explains why.
