According to the locals, the inn’s restaurant specialty “Cheeseburger in Paradise” inspired the Jimmy Buffett hit. Another of its claims to fame is its ghost. The apparition of a woman with long brown hair has been known to visit guest rooms, and a busboy’s tub once flew across the kitchen. Folks speculate that the ghost is a New York woman who once came to the inn to recover from tuberculosis, but passed away.

I worked at the island store a few years ago (Captiva) and everyone knew it was very haunted by at least 2 ghosts. One was a lady in formal dress(she could appear). The other was a guy who would move objects and would mess with you if you were alone. So, nobody would ever want to open or close by themselves. The history of the building is pretty wild over the century. True story
My parents visited Cabbage Key Inn in the early 90s and both reported that their first night there, they were woken up in the middle of the night in their room to a woman with long brown hair and a formal dress staring at them from the end of their bed. They said they felt terrified and unable to move but after a couple minutes, she left the room and disappeared. This experience made my once skeptical father a believer in ghosts.
