  1. I worked as a night shift guard at Dutchess Community College in the latter part of the ’80s and the early ’90s. I have walked alone through Bowne Hall hundreds of times at night. I have been in the basement checking meter readings in the boiler room. It is a creepy place to be; because the age of the building, and the boiler is very old and has been re-patched with plaster several times. I have never felt the presence of any one but myself there.

I will admit that the first time I went to the basement I felt a chill when I opened the door. I started down the stairs and there was nothing to be concerned about. Other buildings are said to be haunted at DCC as well. However I have no proof to those claims.

  2. Hey Vince
Back in the 80’s I worked at DCC for a company called Gleason Security. Twice a night I would have to go into the basement of Bowne hall to punch a small metal key into a clock I carried around my shoulder. The only light down there was the red glow of the exit signs. I am not a superstitious person but every time I went down there the hairs on the back of my neck would stand on end. I always felt uneasy and like I was being watched. It was the only building on campus I used to dread going into. Over 30 years later and I can still see the dark image of the boilers and the red glow of those exit signs.

  3. Back in the late 90’s, I was a member of a small paranormal group called Dutchess Paranormal Investigations (DPI). We had a friend that worked at the college and got us in to the famed Bowne Hall. We did EVP sessions and photos. We had a ton of EVP’s and orb photos. My friend Erin and I also experienced the lights go off and a door shut behind us. I doubt I have any of that evidence left. I don’t know what happened to DPI but I know that there is now Poughkeepsie Paranormal that is local to the college.

  4. I used to work in Bowne Hall for Dean Virginia Stoffel back in 2012 as an Admin Asst. I had frequently been tasked with taking documents up to the 2nd floor, so I used the stairwell/elevator every day. In May of 2012 a few days prior to when my work-study position was coming to an end, I decided to take the stairwell closest to the elevator which was near the front entrance as opposed to the stairwell down the hall by the Office of Community Services. As I placed my hand on the door to open it and enter the stairwell, I saw a young woman dressed in a hospital gown with her back turned towards the door. Needless to say, that was my last day. When I went back into the office to gather my things, I told the office manager Ms. Barbara Mosher what I had seen and at that point she let me know that downstairs used to be the morgue and it was common to see ghosts/apparitions in the bldg. I used to take the elevator down to the vending machine in the basement during my breaks and had no clue about the history.
