This historic hotel still maintains delightfully quaint rooms and a whole array of ghost stories; many of which are believed to stem from the fact that the historic pub was formerly the town morgue. If you’re looking for a haunted room to stay in, you need look no further than Room #003. A former caretaker, nicknamed the ‘Night Stalker’ by staff, has been seen entering this room in the early hours of the morning, and has been known to stand there until he is acknowledged. If you’re looking for haunted cuisine, you’ve come to the right place. The ghost of a female chef who burned to death during the war has been seen wandering through the kitchen and main dining room of the historic establishment, as has the ghostly figure of a miner sitting atop a wooden box adjacent to the fire. Staff working late hours have often claimed to have smelt burning candles, even though the pub has closed for the night.
