The Ayers-Allen House is a private residence that dates back to the 1700s. It is believed to be haunted. Witnesses say the ghosts who live here are Revolutionary War or Hessian soldiers or a woman searching for her young son who was killed by British soldiers. Also said to be here are two Native American spirits who were unjustly hanged in a tree in the yard.

    • During this past 2019 Fall Season there has been a new cable show focused on the work of Dr Hans Holzer. He’s investigated 100’s if not 1000’s of haunted houses including the Ayers-Allen house, of course located in Metuchen. In the opening credits of every episode, a hand pulls out a file labeled ‘Metuchen Ghost’!

  1. Dr Hans Holtzer came to Metuchen in the 1960’s to do a story on the Ayers-Allen House. Ironically during this Autumn season 2019, there have been a few ‘Special Hans Holzer’ file shows on cable. During the intro they show Dr. Holzer with one of his favorite mediums, play some of his reel to reel tapes and pull a file out of a cabinet with the words METUCHEN GHOST on its label.
