A ghostly “charred lady” is said to roam the wildlife reserve, but she has company, as other apparitions have been seen here as well. The spot has been a dumping place for murder victims as well as a party spot for teens.

  1. I was there in May ’12. I don’t know if this could be called a haunting or something else, but it was definitely paranormal.

We were sleeping out in the woods when we were all awakened by a noise that sounded like a helicopter, big truck or train. It went on forever! Of course, there is no road out there so there shouldn’t have been any vehicles. If it were a vehicle- flying or on the ground- it should have moved, but the sound wasn’t moving- no doppler effect.

The next sound we heard sounded like music. We each described it differently. It sounded like fairy music, circus music, an ice cream truck, music coming from an iPhone, music coming from a car radio, or Celtic music, but unlike anything ever heard before. It lasted for 5 hours. Despite it being really weird, nobody said, “Hey, did you hear that?” Nobody got up to look what was going on. It kept waking us all up, but nobody could stay awake. One described it as “haunting.”

Three of us went to sleep in one place and woke up about 3 feet away. The bottom of my sleeping bag was wet, but there was no rain or dew that night. Nobody else’s bedding was wet.

The grass around us was trampled down. There seemed to be “drag marks” in the grass. The grass was also darker in those areas than the surrounding area.

I have no idea what happened, but it was weird. None of felt endangered or scared. In fact, we were all energized despite not having slept all night.

  2. I grew up in Powhatan and me and friends used to go to Amelia wildlife all the time catfishing. Not every time but most nights we heard loud hysterical laughing. It sounded far enough away that we couldn’t tell exactly where it was coming from but close enough to startle us when it started. It was always the same laugh and it would start as soon as we sat down and when we move to another spot it would stop until we sat down again and it always sounded to be the same distance from us no matter where we moved to.

  3. This just happened. We were driving down genito at 10pm and the fog was intense!! then all of a sudden I slammed on breaks and my automatic car stalled and would not restart! Then all of our phone lost signals…. it was crazy….

  4. I have never seen a charred lady, but can definitely attest to the fact that something IS NOT RIGHT with this place. I have fished there for years and have had 3 experiences that I hope not to repeat. Twice while fishing on the south bank at night, i have suddenly had my blood run cold and become very aware that something was near me, something was neither man nor animal. The first time I froze in place, afraid to look around me. After a minute or so, it just went away. I hollered for my buddy who was not to far away and made an excuse to quickly leave. He have me no argument making me wonder if he had something happen also. About 5 months later, this time on the north bank near the damn, I got the same apprehensive feeling. Only this time before I could fully connect the dots, something firmly touched the back of my neck. I spun around, falling on my ass in the process. I could see nothing, but something was there. And then it was gone. We also have heard rambunctious laughing like a party was happening near us.But there was no one else around. I no longer go there at night, and wont go by myself during the day. Whatever interacted with me did not want me there. I will happily oblige.
