Allen's Lane - Philadelphia, PA

It's a headless horseman's ghost that rides here, a Revolutionary War soldier who lost his head in battle. On foggy, dreary nights, he is said to ride by on horseback carrying his severed noggin. Reports say although the story dates from the Revolutionary War period of the 1700s, the horseman has been seen as recently as the 1980s by two policemen.

I live on West Allens Lane. I moved here in 1989. I thought I kept hearing deer running down the street. The noise was very loud. My two dogs barked and followed the sound from the cul-de-sac towards Wissahickon. this went on for a few nights. I decided to take a picture of what I thought were deer. When they began to bark, I ran downstairs to snap the picture. I stood there with my camera, the sound of hoofs were heard, became louder as it crossed my window. But nothing was there. I only hear it in late September and early October. No one else hears it. I heard it in 1989, 1990, 91. I just started closing the window and learned to ignore it. I dont hear it every year, only sometimes.
