Griffith Park

You are here Home  > Miscellaneous >  Griffith Park

Supposedly cursed by Doña Petrenilla, niece of the person in charge of the land, she was enraged having been left out of the will. The following people who owned the land would later fall victim to the supposed curse, including Griffith J. Griffith, whom the park is named after (Griffith would later go to jail for murder). Caretakers and rangers say they’ve seen figures including that of Doña among other ghosts.

  1. When I was a kid, back in the early 80’s, we would ride our bmx bikes up to Griffith Park. From there, we would walk our bikes up the dirt trails up to the observatory and take a break. Then we would ride down the dirt trails. This was a summer time thing we did about once a week. On one trip, we went off trail through the brush and woods to do some exploring. There were three of us on this trip. We walked our bikes in as far as we could and explored. We all got this creepy feeling and heard strange noises. We high tailed out of there and I recall looking back and seeing a white figure chasing us. This was confirmed by both friends. We didn’t know what it was but we didn’t stick around to find out. ‘t wasn’t until years later that I learned of the curse and hauntings of Griffith Park on a television show.
