Longwood Hotel

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  Longwood Hotel

These days the Longwood Hotel has been converted to offices, but its the same building, still featured on the city’s historical walking tours. Workers claim that lights and elevators seem to have a mind of their own. Strange noises and footsteps are heard on the third floor. Police were called once to the building, and a police officer swore he saw someone in an upstairs window, but no one was ever found.

  1. I was there today helping a relative move to a new office. The move was from the 2nd floor to the 3rd floor. When we were almost done, we heard heavy footsteps coming up the stairs then down the hallway right past our door. The door next to us suddenly slammed. I opened the door to a strong smell of womens perfume. I checked the parking lot & no cars were there so I knocked on the door of the vacant office beside us where the person entered. No one answered so I opened the door and no one was there. I also heard the sound of bangle bracelets while this person was running. I investigated this online when I got home & read of George Clark, but this appeared in all ways to be a woman.

  2. I had an office there from 1992 until 1994 on the second floor in the north west corner, don’t remember my office number. I worked late and would here footsteps, heavy and deliberate, a steady walk. I knew that everyone had left the building and would go up there and no one would be there. I didn’t work late very often. The third floor just gave you a creepy feeling. I had heard that when it was a hotel someone was killed in one of the rooms on the third floor in the south west corner, I don’t know if that’s true.

  3. I have lived in Longwood, one block from this hotel, for almost 40 years. I had the chance to go inside when it was once a beautiful, operating hotel. I worked for the manager there at that time doing yard maintenance. I have never heard or seen anything that would classify as paranormal. To this day, I still walk to the hotel at night with my son for our daily strolls. Still haven’t seen or heard anything.

  4. I worked there in 1982. The first floor was a restaurant on one side and a lounge on the other side. In the center of the lobby was a huge bird cage with many live finches zipping about. I believe the second floor was office space. I was a server in the restaurant and also frequented the lounge to pick up drinks for customers. I worked lunch shifts and often had to get there earlier than most of the other employees, to prep salads, set tables, etc. Nothing ever happened to me or around me. I never ventured from the first floor while i was an employee for 6 months, however, the other employees would often venture to the third floor and said it was very creepy. All the furniture was covered in white sheets and the temperature was always ice cold up there… even during hot summer days. It was called “The Longwood Village Inn” back then and the person I worked for was named Penny.

I worked there in the 70’s most haunted. Scary place. Washing bar glasses and they moved on there own, voices also DJ turn tables played records on their own…….

  5. So, my Dad and I were going to my Uncle’s house, and we were at a stop light by the hotel. We happen to look over at it and my Dad looks over at the third floor and saw a strange figure in the window looking out. I looked over as well and I saw the same thing. The blinds were open and the lights were on. So, we’re on our way home, and we happen to pass by the hotel again. We were excited to see what had happen when we were gone. We look over at the same window on the same floor, and the lights were off, and the blinds were closed. We weren’t even gone for that long either.

  6. Join the Longwood Historic Society to learn more about it, & if you’re really interested in old buildings the Bradlee McIntyre right across the street is still standing. It also has an “eerie feeling” to some. The furniture inside is all decorated relative to the time period. – furthermore, the Longwood Inn did have a former owner die at it. This may be why some feel it is haunted. The owner fell, and his wife found him still alive but he later succumbed to his injuries in the hotel. I also have seen lights flicker on the third floor but it’s hard to say by what considering it is now an office building.
